Distances

There are three different distances to participate in the Paavo Nurmi Marathon: 10 km, halfmarathon and marathon.

Start and Finish

The Start and Finish-line for all distances is locatedt beside the City Theatre, approx. 150 m from the Competition Office. 

Courses

The route in marathon and half marathon passes through the city centre and the Ruissalo island. The length of one lap is halfmarathon, 20097,5 m, so full marathon consists of two laps.

The 10km course follows mainly the marathon course and has the turning point near the Turku harbour, so the course doesn't visit the Ruissalo island.

Categories

In marathon and halfmarathon:
Men: overall competition and age categories M 40, M 45…M 70+.
Women: overall competition and age categories N 35, N 40, N 45… N 60+. Please note that we apply the international definition of the categories, where “the category of the participant will be defined by his or her age on the 31st of December in the year of the running event.” The time limit is six hours.

In 10km there are only overall fitness categories for men / women.

Team competition

There are no team competitions in the Paavo Nurmi Marathon.

The awards

The three best participants on the marathon and ½marathon in each division and age group will be rewarded with Paavo Nurmi Marathon collection medals. The award ceremonies for the best five runners on the general division on the marathon and ½ marathon will take place by the finish line as soon as the best five have finished their races. The best three on the age group divisions can receive their awards from a separate award stand as soon as the results are completed.

Champion Chip -timing

You will receive a chip with your competition number. The chip makes sure that we will be able to register your running time.

Time limit

The race needs to be completed within 6 hours. The official closing of the route begins at the half point at 16.20. A runner must have passed this point at this hour in order to continue the marathon.The finish will be closed at 19.20.

Event office (competition office)

The competition office for the Paavo Nurmi Marathon is located in the big tent beside the Turku City Theatre, Itäinen Rantakatu 14. The marathon participant package and number can be picked up during the office hours. The office hours are Fri 29.6. 14-20 and Sat 30.6. 08-11.30. The late registration for the race needs to be done in the competition office. The competition number is personal and giving the number to another person or switching one’s own route is only possible with a special request made in the competition office. The organizers have a right to request a fee of 5€ as a transmission cost of the switch of the number or the route.

Drinking stations

The route has a total of 8 drinking points. The distance to the first drinking point is 2 km  and the others are as follows 5 km, 8 km, 11 km, 14 km, 15,5 km and 18 km. On the second lap: 21 km, 23 km, 26 km, 29 km, 32 km, 35 km, 36,5 km and  39 km.

The drinks will be served at the following order: Maxim, Sports drink - water.

Dressing rooms / showering / equipment storage

The dressing rooms are located at the upper field of the Sport’s Park and underneath of the main stand of the Stadium. Follow the instructions!

The participants are also allowed to use the nearby Swimming Stadium, Samppalinna (300 metersfrom the START/FINISH -line). The participant are granted with a 50% discount from the normal entrance fee.
